Overview
Creekside Blues and Jazz Festival in Gahanna, Ohio, is 3-day event that celebrates music within community. It incorporates a range of artistic creation and fosters an appreciation for the natural world through activities like kayaking on the creek.
Challenge
The festival identity showcases visual elements that speak more to the community than the theme. Current environmental graphics are different applications of a singular logo and the color pallet applied to these application holds a wide range of color tones.
Solution
Focused was placed on the iconography of the logo, considering motifs that could be later repeated within the design of the physical space. Running from the concept: Instrument of creativity, the intent is to communicate an appreciation towards the style of music and the skill and knowledge of an artist to both play and create it. A crucial aspect of the design process was to focus on simplicity and legibility making a black and white logo a key starting point.
Brand Book
An assessment of exisisting identity and competitor identities was essential in strengthening the communication of this event. By compiling documentation of these finding the client can follow the design intent and gain an understanding of successful activations.
